How to dress a child in the summer?

When the mercury posts go up bolder, thick winter jackets, sweaters and warm boots are packed into boxes, making room for lighter clothes. We spend more and more time outside enjoying the charms of summer weather. It is also a great time for regular walks in the fresh air with our kids, which bring a lot of benefits for their health and proper development. So how do you dress a child during summer walks?

Golden rule

With the arrival of the world, the little man must develop new mechanisms and learn many things. Just after birth, its thermoregulatory center does not work as it should, so it's up to parents to take care of the baby's optimal body temperature. In the first months of life, when the child gradually gets used to temperature changes, it is worth dressing him one layer more. If we walk in a T-shirt with short sleeves and long trousers, we can put on a thin blouse with long sleeves in addition to the usual bodysuits and shorts. To check if he is warm enough, just check the temperature on his neck (not on the handles, which may be cold), if he is cool, you can additionally cover him with a blanket. The golden rule is to dress a child like an adult and the season does not make any difference here.

What about this hat?

For our mothers and grandmothers, a hat was a must have for every child, not only during a walk. When maintaining a constant temperature in the whole apartment or house where the new member appeared was a real challenge, it was much easier to dress the child with a hat and be sure that he would not be cold. Nowadays it is not recommended to put a hat on at home at all - the only exception is the time after bathing, when the temperature in the bathroom is significantly different from that in the room where the child is staying. Then he may have a cap on his head, but not longer than 15-30 minutes. According to the recommendations of pediatricians during summer walks, the hat can be abandoned when the temperature exceeds 20 degrees Celsius, there is windless weather, and the child stays mainly in the gondola. If the temperature drops below 15 degrees or we feel ourselves that we should put on a hat, we should also wear it for the child. However, not only a colder day or wind suggests that the toddler has a hat on his head. When the sun is warm and the outside shines, our kids' heads should be protected by appropriate covers - lightweight hats or visors made of breathable materials that will provide effective protection against solar radiation.

What should you remember during summer walks with your child?

When going on a summer walk with an infant, under no circumstances can you cover the gondola with a blanket, diaper or any other thing. Infants and newborns must have access to air and its proper circulation, which prevents covering the booth. It should be remembered that overheating is much more dangerous than cooling down - it reduces immunity, and in extreme cases (in infants) can even lead to cot death. Babies and toddlers who do not use the toilet still wear nappies and diapers, which are also an additional layer of material, which is worth paying attention to when planning a walk and composing an appropriate outfit. Larger and busier kids who cannot sit long in one place should be even lighter dressed than their guardians - at least for the time of effort to avoid overheating. In addition, care must be taken to protect the delicate skin of children and apply a suitable sunblock before going out in the sun. With the above tips in mind, all you have to do is set off and enjoy the walk!
